How to brain?

There are various definitions of a brain. Neuroscientist defines it in neurological jargon which immediately sends a signal that the brain might be a code. Psychologists describe it as an evolutionary tool that behaves in a certain way because of the environment it was brought up in. Physicists might describe the brain as a tool to solve complex universal problems. Computer Scientists may use the word “trouble-shooter” for the brain.

On every front, there is a different definition but the fundamental cause is the same. All want to use the brain for the betterment of something. I’m here to discuss something that is very basic and doesn’t require complex science for it. The brain is a product of influences. Each brain thinks differently because every human grows up in different surrounding environments.

The right use of the brain is when it thinks well about anything. Having a positive perception is what we call normal human behavior. Negativity is always discouraged which means brains shouldn’t be having any negative thoughts. It might lead to harmful consequences eventually.

The brain should think positively in every circumstance. There is no negotiation on it. But let’s analyze why humans incline toward negative thinking? Again this goes to where a baby is born. Our experiences shape our thinking which also translates into action.

But why do we allow our brains to think of negative things in the first place? Let’s take an example, 9/11 took place in 2001 and it was the biggest tragedy after WWII. Imagine this event being discussed every single day? Isn’t that weird?

At some point, you would ask yourself why you are even allowing your brain to incline towards such thinking. Why not think about science and music, that's more fun. Why allow negative thoughts to even get inside our brain since we all know it will only make us worse off.

Yesterday, I was with one of my friends and he started talking about a violent protest that ended up in a big mess. As he got comfortable with the topic, I immediately stopped him there. I asked him a simple question, why do I listen to such a thing which would only create negativity inside my brain? I don’t see any positive insight into this topic, so why do you want to discuss such a thing with me?

Why not talk about my recent project on computer science, it is more fun and I guarantee that it will add value to your life by the time we end our discussion. His face showed a bit of disappointment but I got what I wanted. If you don’t allow your brain to get inundated with negative thoughts, no force on earth can go opposite of that.

Before you consume any information, ask yourself, is this worth your brain's precious memory space? If not, immediately turn your focus to something more productive. It might seem abnormal at the start but as you become precise, this attitude will make sense. It will help preserve your brain for energetic topics such as science, music, art, etc.

People with misogynistic fervor will be found stuffed with thoughts that demonize women in society. Not a single fact they will put forward that could create a space for another human to convince them about their conformation biases towards the female gender. The majority of the Pakistani male population almost hates Malala Yousif Zai for whatever she is doing, especially championing the cause of women empowerment. One of my friends tried to convince me of how evil she is by mentioning her English speaking skills. His opinion was that she must be an agent of a foreign organization else she wouldn't have been awarded the noble peace prize. The reason she spoke good English at her Award Receiving Ceremony shows she was already in contact with foreign agents and they taught her how to communicate with them in English. Just think about this for a moment. Do you have anything to say against such a trivial argument? I don't. I simply find peace by being silent over such a ridiculous argument.

The point is when one allows negative thoughts inside one's brain, it affects one's ability to reason effectively. It is abnormal behavior and to get recognition one starts collecting stupid arguments to falsely convince oneself as the one who is on the right side. There is no limit to how deep one can go inside the negativity loop. It's always going to end in a mess.
